Dear Parents,
This year our school is participating the “Gimme 5 for Education” campaign to raise funds for the Cobb Schools Foundation and our school!  All students who donate will be entered into a drawing to win 2 Braves tickets!
The Cobb Schools Foundation is the only non-profit organization that supports all of our 112 schools, staff and students in Cobb County School District.  All funds collected will directly benefit our schools through Foundation supported scholarships, grants and programs for our schools, students and staff.
Help us to reach our goal of 100% participation by making a $5 tax-deductible contribution and return it to school today!  Give a “High 5” to education!

What is your child learning this week?
One more week until February Break! This week in Reading students will continue to participate in the different Daily 5 Centers while I pull reading groups to work on comprehension and fluency. As a reminder, students should be reading on a level G by the end of this quarter so please continue to help them practice there reading each night. In Social Studies we will continue learning about Theodore Roosevelt. Students will get to visit the Learning Commons to conduct research on his impact regarding our countries National Parks. During Math we will continue to practice adding and subtracting multiples of 10 as well as adding single digit numbers to double digit numbers using regrouping. In Writing students will finish up their "Hey, Little Ant" opinion pieces.

Classroom Event Reminders:
Wednesday February 14th --> Valentines Day! Please select a box or bag for your child to bring in to collect valentines. Students are welcome to decorate this if they would like. We have 24 students in our class so if your child would like to bring in valentines to pass out please make sure they have enough for everyone.

Friday, February 16th --> Teddy Bear Day! In honor of Theodore Roosevelt students will spend the day participating in different "Teddy" themed activities. Students are welcome to bring in their favorite teddy bear to share with the class. We will wrap up the day with a showing of Night at the Museum.

Week of January 16th - 19th

What is your child learning this week?
In math we will continue to work on comparing both one and two digit numbers using the correct signs and explanation of place value. Towards the end of the week we will begin working on mentally adding and subtracting 10 to any given number between 10 and 100. Our phonics words this week focus on the long e sound (ee,ea). There is a repeated sight word in the phonics (three) so really there are only 9 new spelling words this week :) We will continue learning about Lewis and Clark during our Social Studies time and begin learning about opinion writing with some fun popcorn activities.

**As this flu season appears to be getting worse please make sure you keep an extra eye out for any signs. We want to keep as many germs as we can out of our classroom to avoid any extra sicknesses. Also, if anyone would like to donate some Lysol or Clorox disinfectant wipes it would be greatly appreciated! We have plenty of baby wipes but unfortunately they don't get rid of the germs.**

October 16-20

Conference week is here! Please please please arrive on time for your conference. I have conference scheduled every 30min so it is important that we start on time in order for myself and your child to share everything. Also, remember that here at Addison we hold student led conferences which means your child will be sharing their data and work samples so please remember to bring them along! :)

What is your child learning this week?
This week we will begin our unit on Time. Students in first grade are expected to tell time to the hour and half hour. In Language Arts we will be learning about verbs, nouns, and adjectives. We will visit the Science Lab this week to begin our unit on Magnets. With report cards finally finished we should be getting back to our normal reading groups, finally! :) There will also still be a spelling test on Friday and homework packet sent home Monday.

**Please remember to send in a healthy snack each day! Our emergency snack stash is starting to run low. Thank you!**
